To head off the beaten track is one thing that a lot of us wishes to do during our holiday vacations. Well known tourist attractions that are commonly located in well-known cities have been too exposed to us over the years that it has become tiresome for us to see them in person. Depending on what time of the year you choose to visit, some of these major destinations may end up causing you more hassle than what they’re worth. A lot of these tourist attractions ends up getting fully booked with unrelenting and long queues within minutes on peak times, especially on school breaks. Unless you’ve been really desperate to visit one specific destination, then this may all be worth it. If you wish to have a more authentic experience of a certain destination that you wish to visit, it may be better for you to choose to go slightly off the beaten track. Lately, Copenhagen has become one of the most famous holiday destinations, which makes it a great example.
The Freetown Christiania
If seeing the way other people go on with their lives and getting our of regular civilization is something you like to do, then you have basically hit the jackpot with Freetown Christiania. It was set up in the 70s by a group of like-minded individuals not far from the Copenhagen city center and is an alternative hippy commune. After coming to an agreement in 2011, the authorities have chosen to leave Christiania alone despite the original opposition from the past. The small town is car-free and you will also not be allowed to buy a house there; you will have to apply for it, and pass a certain criteria which will be given to you. There is always a lot of things going on, from live music to excellent street food and even a local market.
No matter how artsy and quirky neighborhoods could go, nowhere in the world does it better than the Vesterbro. This area, located in the southwest of the city, was once known for being a heavily working class neighborhood and was even famed for its red-light district! It is now known as a trendy and hip place full of independent attractions, cafes and easteries. There are numbers of excellent places that you can stay in, so if you are seeking for hotels in Copenhagen, Denmark, look no further! You just have to spend a bit of time walking through the streets and seeing what you can come across.

A cemetery may be an unusual place to visit while you are on vacation. But you should give this one a chance. The cemetery is well-known for its beauty and one can easily go whiling away the hours here. In here, you will also be able to see the final resting places of famous people.
